Exams were passed in the traffic police, the coveted rights were obtained, and then - a matter of practice. However, for many novice car enthusiasts, this practice is full of fears, as evidenced by an online survey conducted by the AUTOSTAT agency and the Za Rulem publishing house.

We present you the top 10 most common fears of newcomers driving.

10. Fear of regulated intersections

0.9% of the drivers surveyed admitted this fear. Regulated intersections are those at which traffic lights or the traffic controller operate. And according to statistics, about 80% of urban accidents with injuries or death occur on them.

Typically, an accident occurs in the first 4 seconds after a signal change, so experienced drivers recommend that you don’t break into the intersection as soon as the green lights up. If the drivers of the car fidget for you these 4 seconds, this is unpleasant, but not dangerous for your health.

9. Fear of breaking a car

One of the most common fears of a novice motorist is a car breakdown caused by a driver. About 4.9% of respondents reported it.

If you are afraid to break your car, at first we recommend a ride with an experienced driver who will calmly tell you what to do in a given traffic situation.

It is also advisable to choose one of the best-selling used cars on the Russian market as your first "iron horse", which, if you damage anything, is not a pity.

8. Fear of pedestrians

The ten most powerful fears of motorists include the fear of pedestrians, it was reported by 5.3% of respondents. And such an attitude on the part of drivers is quite justified, because the culture of pedestrian movement in Russia is at a low level.

Some pedestrians create emergency situations, literally “rushing under the wheels” where there is no pedestrian crossing, or crossing the road in front of a nearby car. Here the driver will save only a good reaction.

7. Fears that I disturb everyone

8.4% of respondents admitted that they were afraid to interfere with other road users. What can I say? Experienced drivers, be kinder to beginners, because you once sat behind the wheel for the first time, feeling trembling in your hands and knees.

6. Fear of parking and taking back

The need to master the subtle art of parking and reversing frightens 9.3% of motorists.

To reduce this fear to nothing, or at least significantly reduce it, we recommend choosing good parking sensors or a rear view camera.

5. Fear of unregulated intersections

Stronger than the regulated intersection of motorists, only the unregulated intersection is frightening. 11.1% of respondents fear him.

It’s good if there are priority signs at such an intersection. If they are not there, you just need to remember: you should always concede to the one on the right.

4. Fear of dying out

The possibility of being in a car stalled on the road scares 12.3% of new drivers. However, not a single one, even the most experienced driver, is immune from such a case. The reasons can be very different: from the commonplace - the fuel has run out, to a serious one, like a malfunction in the wiring.

We recommend that you always keep the tow rope in the car so that in case of a malfunction friends or passing motorists can tow your swallow to the nearest service. If no one agrees to do this, try to pull over, turn on the emergency light, set the emergency stop sign and call the tow truck.

3. Phobia DPS

Although we know that the police, fire department and ambulance crews are ready to help us, many novice car owners suffer from nervousness at the mere thought that they will be stopped by a traffic police officer. A similar fear was reported by 12.4% of the total number of drivers surveyed by AUTOSTAT and Driving.

2. Fear of other cars

Worse than with a pedestrian culture, things in Russia are only with a driving culture. Overtaking, trimming, driving without a license and when drunk are not uncommon in our country. That is why 16.6% of completely trustworthy, but still not too experienced drivers are most afraid of other road users.

It is curious that fear of other drivers came out on top in a survey conducted for Ford Motor Co among young motorists in the United States (aged 16-34). He overtook even the fear of public speaking and the fear of death.

1. Fear to get under way

Here it is, the most common fear of novice drivers (19%). When passing the driving test, if the car rolls backward, moving uphill, then it doesn’t. And even “in free swimming” this subconscious fear of failure can interfere with the driver.

In addition, skill is needed to learn how to move smoothly with a hand brake, and this only comes with practice.
